Martin's Box of Fears

All the images in this presentation are found slides in a big box. This box was brought into the 3D workshop at Dewsbury College where I used to teach. It contained hundreds of mostly empty slide frames, except for a few, which had images. The workshop technician’s name at that time was Martin who was also my friend. The slides were seen as office debris in a different department of the building and donated to the art students as a potential working material. I selected all the slides, which had images, not knowing anything of their original use.

A substantial collection built up. Amongst the slides one of them had the word “fear” somehow scratched onto the film. After scanning all the slides I arranged them in some kind of order and tied everything together with the title Martin’s Box of Fears. The blank slides included in the show open up possibilities for the viewer’s participation with their own thoughts or feelings.
